Digital Devices & Skills

Hive community device distribution

Being inclusive means providing the right technology to meet each individual's unique needs.

Digital Devices

Full and meaningful participation in the digital world is dependent on having access to the technology that is responsive to your age, developmental stage, ability, and background. Accessibility is at the core of our mission.

This commitment includes providing assistive technologies, offering materials in multiple languages, and creating content that is easy to understand and use. People can explore tablets, laptops, desktops, and creative tools like digital crayons.

That’s just the beginning. IDIA also offers future-focused tech including:

  • 3D Printers
  • Augmented and Virtual Reality
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Machine Learning
  • Robotics
  • Sustainable (“Green”) Technology

To overcome language barriers, IDIA leverages Instant Language Assistants for real-time translation in over 200 languages and dialects.

A Unique Model for Device Distribution

Institute for Digital Inclusion and Acceleration device distribution

The Digital Equity Success Kit (DESK) model is our in-community distribution program, ensuring that community members have the resources they need to safely and meaningfully engage online, whether at home or in a Hive.

The DESK model guarantees that communities most in need have access to devices and the tools necessary for work, school, and play

We are dedicated to helping communities gain access to digital skills that help them thrive.

digital skills

At IDIA, our programs focus on foundational skills, in-demand 21st-century skills, creative skills, and essential human power skills like critical thinking, empathy, and collaboration.

Through workshops, classes, camps, and walk-in visits at our Hives, we create space and opportunity for people to become empowered. By forming strong partnerships and maintaining continuous feedback loops, we ensure that we identify the skills of tomorrow and bring learning opportunities directly to the community.

We prioritize language and cultural considerations to ensure our programs are community-responsive. Our focus on stackable credentials and pathway programs offers limitless opportunities, enabling people to access education, work, services, and play.

We also emphasize the importance of online safety and cybersecurity. Addressing the risks that come with being a new participant in the digital world means being intentional about helping people protect themselves and their families. Our programs include education on passwords, scams, fraud, and combating misinformation and disinformation, ensuring that everyone can navigate the digital world securely and confidently.
