Digital Skills, Real Careers: Free Tech Training That Opens Doors
IDIA is launching a workforce initiative designed to connect Arizonans, particularly those previously excluded from opportunity, to future-ready credentials and real economic mobility, right in the neighborhoods where they live and work. In Guadalupe, a mother explores data analytics using a MacBook and free high-speed internet. In Superior, a young adult updates his résumé with help from someone trained in both technology and the local job market. These moments happen daily across Arizona’s growing network of digital learning hubs, called Hives, and they’re about to scale dramatically. Arizona’s workforce is projected to grow by over 486,000 jobs by 2035, outpacing the national average with a 1.3% annual increase (Rounds Consulting, Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity, 2025). To ensure that this growth benefits all communities, we must pair opportunity with access, support, and targeted skills training. This initiative aligns with Arizona’s broader Workforce Development Plan and Talent Pipeline Management strategy, ensuring that learners build the skills most

Lighting Up the Future 2025: Honoring the People Powering Arizona’s Digital Future
From rural training hubs to statewide innovation policy, Arizona’s digital future is being built by the people who connect communities. In a time when access to technology defines who can learn, work, and thrive, the Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration (IDIA) gathered Arizona’s leaders to shine a light on the people and ideas transforming connection into opportunity. On May 6, 2025, at the stunning Desert Botanical Garden, IDIA hosted its fourth annual Lighting Up the Future Gala — a celebration of progress, partnership, and possibility. The evening honored changemakers expanding digital access across Arizona, sparked timely conversations about the future of work, and recognized those working every day to ensure all Arizonans have the tools to succeed. “This work is about more than devices or fiber,” shared Dr. Erin Carr-Jordan, President & CEO of IDIA. “It’s about hope, dignity, and unlocking potential. The people we honored tonight are not just advancing access;

From a metro to a mining town: IDIA opens new community Hives in Mesa and Superior
Every community deserves digital access, no matter its population size or zip code. In two Arizona communities that rarely share the same headlines — the vast, populous city of Mesa and the small mountainside town of Superior — the Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration opened two new Hives this March. The spaces expand access to technology, training, and resources for families and learners of all ages, from exploring tools like VR and 3D printing to learning internet basics with support from on-site Digital Navigators. Thanks to support from Apple, the Hive has state-of-the-art technology, including iPads, iMacs, and Macbooks, along with Sphero robotics kits and other hands-on tools designed to spark curiosity and skill-building across age groups. Apple is also helping to equip the Hives — and the Digital Navigators — with creativity tools and resources to support storytelling, music, photography, and more. It’s all part of an ever-growing effort to meet communities where they are and

The Mobile Hive: ‘Rolling Out’ Digital Access and Skills Across Arizona
Imagine the digital resources you need arriving right in your neighborhood. That’s the idea behind the Institute for Digital Inclusions Acceleration’s Mobile Hive—a state-of-the-art technology hub on wheels designed to bring essential digital tools, support, and connectivity directly to communities throughout Arizona. Outfitted with high-speed WiFi, a comfortable bench, a sink, and even a mini-fridge, these mobile hubs make digital learning and tech access easy and within reach for everyone, right where they live. With demand already high, the first Mobile Hive is set to roll out this winter. A Mobile Solution for Digital Inclusion The Mobile Hive is more than just a vehicle; it’s a comprehensive learning center that can adapt to community needs. Serving as a pop-up classroom and digital support center, it offers everything that stationary Hives provide, including a workspace, internet access, computers, tablets, 3-D printers, robotics, virtual reality, telehealth equipment, and IDIA’s Digital Navigators on hand to assist with

Connecting Chandler: IDIA Opens Fifth ‘Hive’ to Digitally Upskill Communities
Just minutes from downtown Chandler, families now have a welcoming space to explore technology, build digital skills, and connect with opportunities. In early November, the Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration (IDIA) opened its fifth Hive on the campus of San Marcos Elementary School. This new Hive provides state-of-the-art tools and hands-on learning for the community and is the first in IDIA’s network to be located on an elementary school campus—a valuable resource for both students, teachers, and families. A unique collaboration The Chandler Hive, two years in the making, exemplifies the power of multi-sector, multi-partner collaboration. This effort brought together the City of Chandler, Chandler Unified School District, AZCEND, and IDIA to create a space that would address both the digital and practical needs of residents. Local government offices, including the City Manager’s Office and the Economic Development Office, worked alongside community organizations to bring the project to life. AZCEND,
Advancing Access for Aguila: Inside IDIA’s Mission to Connect and Support Rural Communities
In the heart of Arizona lies the small farming town of Aguila, a community of 565 residents known for their resilience and tight-knit community. The people of Aguila work hard to support their families and one another, but like many rural areas, they face a significant digital divide. High school students must commute daily to Wickenburg for their education, and job opportunities in Aguila are limited compared to those in urban areas of Arizona. To bridge this gap, the Institute for Digital Inclusion Acceleration (IDIA) has partnered with the Maricopa County Library District and local organizations to bring technology and training directly to Aguila through pop-up versions of The Hive – community hubs where people can access and get training on technology. IDIA is part of a consortium, alongside YWCA and Aguila Library, that is working to support the local community. IDIA’s work is also part of the broader Maricopa
